Using electric mixer on high speed, in large mixing bowl cream 1/4 cup sugar, the margarine, and butter; add egg and vanilla and beat until light and fluffy, about 1 minute. Using electric mixer on low speed, gradually beat in flour mixture.

I am sure every family has their own favourite recipe that Mum is hounded to make again and again. In our family, it is Dutch Apple Pie. I had a stall with my mother in law once at an Air Show, where Mum made Ole Bole (Dutch Donuts) and I made supplied the apple pie. I made over 100 pies in preparation for that day.
